Our Economy is Diverse
Folks in the North Fork Valley are an interesting mix of beliefs, philosophies
and lifestyles with a core value of “rugged individualism.”
Our local economy is a reflection of that individuality and, therefore there’s more than a single propellant moving our community forward.
Business leaders, farmers, miners, retirees, artists, healers, non-profits and government officials have identified five areas of interconnected fields that are desirable to develop our economic and social drivers.
Since dependence on a single industry is high risk, all of these are deemed critical to the long-term sustainability of the North Fork Valley.

* Food, Wine and Sustainable Agriculture.
We’re proud of our agricultural history. The land is ideal for organic and naturally grown fruits and vegetables. Open ranch lands provide grazing for grass fed beef, buffalo and game. Our fresh and value-added products are in demand and the market is constantly growing.
* Energy Resources
The North Fork Valley has a strong tradition coal mining. In addition, alternative resources - sun, wind and water - are abundant. A new coal mine, being proposed would maintain local jobs and keep families in the community. In addition, alternative energy solutions that would provide new jobs are welcomed along with training opportunities that would diversify technical skills and knowledge.
* Creative Arts
The beautiful environment and magnificent surroundings provide an inspiring backdrop for artists, musicians and writers. The North Fork
Valley has been declared a Colorado "Creative District” by the Governor and efforts are underway to attract visitors and new neighbors who share our love for creativity. Local artisans have come together to form the North Fork Valley Creative Coalition in order to nurture community through experiential learning, creative expression, and wholesome living.
* Recreation and Tourism
An abundance of natural resources in and around the North Fork Valley offer many outdoor recreational and sports opportunities for both residents and visitors. In addition, farms, wineries and art venues offer a diverse and interesting array of entertainment that contribute to our growing tourism industry, with an emphasis on family-friendly activities.
* Health and Wellness
There are tremendous resources in the community for traditional and nontraditional healing and wellness practices. Community members
from retirees, to young families appreciate the benefits of having access to a wide range of healing arts. We encourage health and wellness in the community, healthy lifestyles and a community that welcomes others to “recharge & enjoy” the North Fork Valley.
We, in the North Fork Valley have a true interest and caring about the people, the land and the quality of life in this community that we call our
home. We understand that, no matter what our personal belief system is, we can make a difference today and the choices we make now will affect our future and our children’s future.
